Messy, muddled scene of private vehicle operators on busy BC road | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 7: Claiming to have started correction course in the systems that have gone haywire due to rampant corruption, the PDP-BJP government has failed to make any difference on the busy BC Road around Bus stand, where the things remains ever chaotic with muddled and messed up vehicles of all sorts which have turned the scene unruly, thanks to the strong nexus between many stake holders which doesn't break, no matter which government is in power. Sources said the system of graft and bribery which is continuing on this road for a long time has got a further boost with ever new 'players and payers' who have vested interests to let the indiscipline grow to any heights. While the interstate private bus operators have their supreme say in charging fares from the passengers, they are undeterred by the presence of Police or Traffic Police for obvious reasons, said the sources adding that they pay well that goes to every corner in a well knit nexus between the traffic cops, police as well as the main Transport department which should have been the key agency in regulating the movement of the private operators. It is now widely known that these vehicle owners have ever changing and unpredictable fares they charge and it varies with the influx of the passengers. The writ of the luxurious, sleeper coaches runs large for Delhi bound passengers which at times goes as high as Rs 1800, also seen recently around Diwali festival when the rush was at peak, said the sources citing an instance when a family whose tickets for the train were not confirmed had to pay per person much higher than fares charged in AC classes of the trains. The nexus of the private operators has strong with no competition or resistance from the state run SRTC which is non existent on the scene, said the sources. Pertinent to mention is that it was in the year 2005 when SRTC introduced its two Volvo luxurious buses with a reasonable fare for interstate service, mainly between Jammu-Delhi. It ran smoothly for a couple of years but this collapsed all of a sudden due to 'pressure' from the private operators who have managed a nexus not only with the Police, traffic cops but within the Transport Department too. At present the SRTC doesn't own any Volvo bus nor has it given any reason for stopping the service which ran for some time very effectively, said the sources. Gross indiscipline and waywardness in parking by the small private vehicle owners with interstate region and inter district services also accounts for huge mess on the road at any point of time, said the sources adding that while the buses have somewhat fixed schedule of timings, there is no such schedule with the small commercial vehicles. There is huge corruption in the parking too, said the sources adding that while the buses pay any amount between Rs 200-Rs 500 for parking their vehicle at their choicest places, the small vehicles pay Rs 20 for few hours, surprisingly not to any government regulated agency, but in a well laid out system, clandestinely to 'unknown' and 'invisible' persons, said the sources. In all it is a strong nexus based on a huge money game which determines the system and scene on busy BC road, sources further said. |
