As financial year nears end, GoI sits on Rs 1500 cr CRF projects | | | Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 7: Even as the current financial year is nearing closure, the State Government is awaiting approval of various road projects worth Rs 1500 crore under the Central Road Fund (CRF) from the Centre. Official sources told Early Times that Public Works Department had sent a proposal of several road projects worth Rs 1500 crore to the Union Government in the beginning of the current financial year. "Few months are left in the closure of current financial year, but the Centre is yet to approve vital road projects which should have been cleared in September. Due to delay in the sanction of projects the timely execution of the projects will be affected which ultimately lead to the cost escalation and thereby stoppage of execution of projects midway," the sources said. They said the already working conditions in the State are limited to few months due to harsh weather conditions particularly in Kashmir region. If works on projects begin late, the utility of the projects will be of no use. "We see no hope of approval of projects in current financial year even then the projects are approved, the execution cannot be carried out as State budget session of 2015-16 is expected to be held in mid January next year and all departments are busy in compiling reply of questions asked by the legislators and the normal work in the administration remained affected," they maintained further, adding that cost overrun factor due to delay in execution of projects defeated the real purpose to connect many unconnected areas. |
