Jammu, Dec 29: City Judge, Jammu, M S Manhas today awarded one year imprisonment to one Vishal Anand in a cheque bounce case and directed him to pay a compensation of Rs 7.4 lakh to the complainant. The accused had borrowed Rs 3,70,000 from one Surjeet Singh to fulfil his domestic needs and promised that he would refund the money on demand by the complainant. When the complainant asked him to pay back the money, he issued a cheque of Rs 3,70,000 which was dishonoured with remarks of 'account closed'. Surjeet then filed a case against him under section 138 of NIA. The judge, after hearing the two sides, observed that offence under section 138 of NIA was proved against the accused. With this observation, he sentenced the accused to undergo one year imprisonment and also directed him to pay compensation of Rs 7.40 lakh to the complainant. --(JNF) |
