Sericulture, Animal Husbandry deptts show poor performance

Jammu, Dec 29: In what could be termed as the lackadaisical approach of Sericulture and Animal Husbandry Departments, as the five projects sanctioned five years back under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) still awaits for completion.
Sources informed Early Times that five years on, Union government has sanctioned three projects of Sericulture department with an estimated cost of Rs. 115 Lakhs. "Even the executing agency Sericulture department has adequate funding but the department has utilized only Rs. 31 Lakhs till date which is the one forth part of the funds" they said.
Same year, two projects had sanctioned for Animal Husbandry department at an estimated cost of Rs.1.41 crore but five years gone the status of said project is still incomplete.
"Three projects of Sericulture department include propagation of exotic/improved mulberry variety, another project (Construction of rearing houses), Supply of rearing kits project, propagation of exotic high yielding mulberry varieties where department has utilized Rs. 2.20Lakhs till date, and Rs. 30.74 Lakhs were spent for 29 beneficiaries of Jammu and Kashmir in various district who were going outside the state for study, rest of other funds department yet utilized.
Sources further said that union government has sanctioned two projects for Animal Husbandry include up gradation of animal husbandry labs and purchase of Vans/ Ambulance for eight newly created districts of state, holding of animal fertility camps and providing of mineral mixture and supporting medicines but till date only fifty percent work would be done.
"In newly created districts of Jammu and Kashmir animal husbandry Labs are available but they are not functioning because lack of technical staff and due to up gradation of labs", they said, adding that the purposes of vans and ambulances in said institutions for staff and carrying medicines in any emergency cases but the shoddy performance of coalition government and their administration they didn't utilized that funds properly and timely.
