'J&K Update' of Home Ministry adheres to its 'policy' in BJP rule too
Jammu, Ladakh blacklisted yet again
12/30/2015 12:13:55 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 29: BJP's hallow political posturing towards Jammu and Ladakh and hollow concern towards the two neglected regions stands completely exposed through its perpetual acts that reflected only insincerity with people on many fronts. The party would lash out at ruling clique on issues is now repeating the same line while in power. The story of ignoring and overlooking Jammu and Ladakh in prestigious "J&K Update" continues, thus far in BJP rule too.
Ignoring the two regions Ladakh and Jammu and blacklisting them in its content is something a matter of policy adopted for years by the 'Jammu & Kashmir Update', an initiative published by Union Home Ministry exclusively for this trouble torn and sensitive State. But happening this at a time when BJP is ruling both at Centre and State corroborates the fact yet again that all concern and worries demonstrated by BJP while in opposition for two neglected regions in all matters was hollow . BJP stands not just blind but also muted completely to this one, the December edition of this Update having done it again. There is no description of any activities in Jammu or Ladakh, not even mention of the name of these two regions in this edition once again.
What remains an irony is in the intent that this magazine was meant to showcase the positive developments taking place across entire State, not just one region. But ever since its inception, it has always focussed on Kashmir alone in its content as well as the pictures. For any outsider subscribing to it regularly, an impression must have gathered by now that J&K is only Kashmir and there are no places like Jammu or Ladakh with it, for these rarely find any place for mention or illustration of activities taking place or not taking place.
For instance, in the December edition, in its development corner, the Update has made a mention of PM Narendra Modi's visit to J&K and the announcement of Rs 80,000 cr package but again it has been descripted in a manner as if this was meant only for Kashmir and flood victims. PM also visited Jammu region in connection with prestigious Baghlihar power project, but this finds no mention in the Update. A loosely written note on this Development corner shows it all- "While reaching out to youth, Modi promised more funds for their better future and added that it was his desire that the amount (Rs. 80,000 crore) be spent on building new Kashmir, an advanced and progressive Kashmir. He called the package just a beginning and added that he wanted to go beyond helping flood victims and promised to create jobs for Kashmiri youth, by improving education and by promoting industries, including tourism and cashmere wool industries……."
In its Tourism corner as always there is complete focus on tourists getting attracted to Kashmir in autumn and the Youth corner finds an illustrative mention of a young innovator from Kashmir Valley. Same goes for the sports corner where content focuses on certain activities in Kashmir besides that of Bharat Darshan tour of children, not to speak of other activities too, where there is least mention of Ladakh and Jammu, as if the two regions do not exist at all. It is for BJP to see and do at least one good- change the name of publication as Kashmir Update, instead of Jammu and Kashmir Update….!
