Budgam admin ignores HC directive on cutting of poplars | | | Jehangir Rashid Eary Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Administration of Budgam district has not taken the issue of cutting of Russian poplar trees seriously, despite directions from the High Court. A delegation of residents of Daharmunah in Budgam district told Early Times that they had moved an application for cutting of Russian poplar trees and other trees since they are likely to cause harm to them. The residents said although months have passed since the moving of application no action whatsoever has been taken. "One fails to understand why the district administration is taking too long in cutting the Russian poplar trees and other trees as well. If the High Court directions are clear cut it would have been in tune to cut the trees at the earliest so that there is no trouble to the common masses," said the members of delegation. The delegation members said that some of the trees are causing constant threat to their lives, but still then the district administration remains unmoved in cutting the trees. They demanded that cutting of trees should be ordered at the earliest so that the masses are absolved of the tension that they go through on regular basis. "Human lives are very important and the authorities are under a duty to protect the human lives. However, this does not hold true with the administration of Budgam as they continue to play with our lives. Some trees are posing constant threat to our lives, but still then orders for their cutting are awaited," said delegation members. The delegation members said that they approached Deputy Commissioner's office at Budgam many times but of no use, since the requisite order was not issued. They said repeated contact with the Tehsil office also did not yield results. They added the concerned officer also did not come to their help and as such they continue to suffer. "The gravity of the situation is enormous but it does not make it any difference for the people who have to take the final call in this regard. Repeated communication with the concerned officials both official as well as unofficial has not yielded the desired results," said the members of delegation. When contacted Tehsildar Budgam, Suhail Ahmad said that the matter would be sorted out and orders for cutting of trees would be issued soon. He said that a team of Social Forestry department will visit the village in few days and following the same orders for cutting of trees would be issued. |
