No more pampering: Police unites against separatists in Kashmir | | | ET Report srinagar, Dec 29: Breaking the tradition of offering "VIP treatment" to separatists during detention at Police Stations in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have finally resolved to cut the outlaws to their size through strict punishment. The clear-cut change in the strategy is even visible in the police handout. The attack on SDPO Kothi Bagh Fahad Tak, who received serious head injuries during pro-freedom protests last Friday, has reflected the change in the Police Department. Tak sustained stone injury during clashes that erupted after JKLF Chief Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested along with his supporters Friday last. Sources said the Police Department has conveyed to the PDP-led coalition to give "exemplary punishment to Yasin Malik and his supporters" and that "JKP will no more play puppet in the hands of politicians in tackling separatist sentiment." Born in 1985, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Fahad Tak, sustained serious injuries. He is being treated at All India Medical Institute (AIIMS) New Delhi for his damaged eye and fracture in nose while doctors fear he may lose the eye sight. Sources said the officers of all ranks in the police force have united, asking their higher-ups including DGP, IGP and Commissioner Secretary Home to act tough against the separatist sentiment and "tame such elements with iron hands". "Successive regimes have made us work like a Tawaif who has to dance at the tunes of criminals. We were often asked to provide separate rooms to separatists who would be detained from time to time at police stations but now enough is enough," said a senior police officer pleading anonymity. He said given the political interference it had become a tradition that the separatists would need to be treated like VIPs in police custody. "The pampering of these anti-India elements by the mainstream has been a cause of rot in the system but we won't tolerate it any further because now these separatists are getting onto our nerves," said another police official, adding "We can't see our colleagues getting physically impaired." Officials said it was due to the resentment within the police that Yasin Malik was booked for attempt to murder and sent to judicial custody at Central Jail in Srinagar. "He(Malik) was supposed to be released as usual but it was only because of the strict reaction of the police officials that he was jailed," the officials said. It is for the first time that the police has sent a detailed clarification for having booked Yasin Malik for attempt to murder. "Apropos the news carried today in a section of the press titled JKLF Chief, Leaders booked for attempt to murder. It is to clarify that Mohammad Yaseen Malik, along with his associates took out a procession on Friday (25-12-2015) without any prior permission from District Administration," the police said in the official handout. "During this un-lawful procession Mohammad Yaseen Malik incited and instigated his associates with an intention to create disturbances and to disturb the normal life. The supporters started heavy pelting on the policemen and the passing by vehicles injuring many policemen including Fahad Tak- DySP, SDPO Kothibagh, Srinagar who received serious injuries to his eye and a fracture in his nose," the police said. "The young officer aged 29 years, a direct KPS of 2011 Batch and on his first field posting, had to be air lifted to Delhi and is under treatment at AIIMS New Delhi. The doctors at the hospital are not very optimistic about the regaining of vision of the affected eye despite surgeries having being performed," the handout said. "For the incident, Case FIR No 47/2015 was registered in Police Station Maisuma and Mohammad Yaseen Malik along with some of his associates were taken into custody and lodged in Police Station. Under the legal process, the accused have been remanded to Judicial custody and lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar. |
