Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 29: State Government ignoring the contribution of the contractual employees associated with the Sidhra Golf Course here has once again brought to fore the lackadaisical approach of the officials.
Sources told Early Times that contractual employees don't get their stipends on time and are treated like second grade citizens. They have been running from pillar to post to get regularized for the past ten years but till date no steps have been taken to acknowledge their contribution by regularizing them.
The ambitious Sidhra Golf Course project, involving several Crores of rupees is an outcome of an initiative taken by the then PDP- Congress government to promote tourism in Jammu may lose its sheen if government fails to address the grievances of the employees as they are ones who have been maintaining it for the past one decade. "Officials of the Tourism department seem least interested in solving the problems of the employees and they are making them run from pillar to post," said a source.
Pertinently, Rs 60 Crores were spent to develop Sidhra Golf Course here and the project was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah a few years ago and now it was also inaugurated by incumbent Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on October 26.
"But both the CMs left no stone unturned to patting their back and claimed that government is committed to promote tourism in state but both successful chief ministers ignored to recognize the works of maintenance done by these employees", said an employee.
Recently government had announced that three more golf courses would be set up in Jammu to promote region as the one of the favourite golfing destinations in the world.
An employee said, "Tourism department is not able to regularize the employees associated with one golf course. Having three golf courses in Jammu is just an announcement which won't see the light of the day."
Sources said the commitment of the officials of tourism department that all causal employees would be regularized soon after the golf course would become functional have proved to be hoax . "But despite lapse of many years of functioning of nine holes golf course and even two months gone after inauguration of 18 holes by incumbent CM, the more than hundred employees are making rounds of the office concerned for their regularization but all in vain", he said.
When this correspondent contacted secretary of Golf Course, Colonel BBS Bali said that the process of regularization under progress, we have taken up matter with concerned quarters as we get nod from higher authority, the services of the employees would be regularized.
