Over 6400 persons convicted in past 2 years | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 29 : In the past two years over 6450 persons have been convicted in various cases here whereas a fine of over Rs 23 crore has been recovered from the offenders. "During the last two years 6,459 persons were convicted, besides Rs 23.30 crore realised as fine from the offenders in different cases in Jammu Province", Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar was informed during a meeting with chief prosecuting officers of Jammu Province here today. He said that coordination between the investigating and prosecuting agencies was imperative to ensure that victims are extended relief and culprits are brought to justice. "Enforcement of rule of law and punishment to criminals is necessary to make the society crime free and prosecution wing oa the department has an important role in this regard," the DGP said. He said that detection and prevention of crime was imperative to provide a secure and congenial atmosphere in the society, but at the same time prosecutors have an important role in determining the fate of the accused and safeguard the interests of the nation. The meeting was convened to discuss and improve the working of prosecutors for the logical conclusion of criminal cases. Rajendra asked the prosecutors to improve their proficiency and keep themselves updated with the latest amendments in the law to bring the cases to their logical end. He said that effective monitoring at different levels and cooperation among the agencies with the judiciary is of vital importance to fight the cases with the spirit of impartiality and honesty. |
