Early Times Report
Udhampur, Dec 29: The massive encroachment of roads in Udhampur have made lives of the people difficult. The encroachers have not spared places like Gole market , Mukherjee Bazaar , Court Road and Main Bazaar.
Footpaths on both sides of Gole Market are totally encroached by shopkeepers and vendors. People face a tough time during walking as most of the shopkeepers place their goods . It is quite amazing that all is being done by outsiders. The concerned departments don't take strict action against them and the people allow them to carry their business.
At city Gole market area , street vendors have encroachment upon footpaths causing immense inconvenience to pedestrians. "Due to encroachment of footpaths near Lal chowk and Lambi Gali people are forced to walk on main road. This poses risk of accidents. We wonder why the authorities are sitting over this serious issue," said a group of shopkeepers.
Some furnishing shops , carpet sellers display their entire goods on the main roads. There is hardly any place to walk or park vehicles at this market..
The people said that complaints were lodged witht the concerned time and again with the concerned without results.
When contacted an officer of municipality acknowledged the problem. "We many times launched a drive against shopkeepers and street vendors who encroach upon the footpaths and roadsides. However, we had to stop the drives half-way due to political pressure. But now we will take strictly action against them (they encroach footfath)
With in soon and demolished all the encroachment regarded footpaths of the city.
