Protests in MLA Dooru's ancestral village over power crisis 12/29/2015 11:19:48 PM Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Dec 29: Irked over shortage of electricity, residents of MLA Dooru Syed Farooq Indrabi's ancestral village on Tuesday held forceful protest against Power Development department. Eyewitness said that residents including women and children held protest outside the office of Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Dooru and held protest against official apathy. Protesters blocked Dooru-Verinag road for hours together and chanted slogans against government and officials of Power Development Department. Reports said that protesters put rolls of electric conductor on road to display official apathy towards the village. Villagers also chanted slogans against MLA Dooru Syed Farooq Indrabi for not paying heed towards their pleas. "Hundred times we approached MLA Dooru Syed Farooq Indrabi but he couldn't mitigate our problems even couldn't project same before the government and Power Development Department," Ghulam Nabi Dar, a resident told media. Protesters said that Power Development Department failed to overhaul the distribution system while as faulty transformers are adding worries to residents. "You can come to our village and see electric transmission lines hanging over trees," protesters said, adding poles that have been erected over a decade ago are posing serious threat to residents as in coming days due to heavy snowfall they can collapse at any time. Protesters said that time and again transformers installed in the village are developing technical snags. "This is the situation of the village where the family of MLA Dooru resides, you can assume the overall situation of other far off villages in Dooru," Idrees Ahmad, a resident said. Senior police officials and SDM Dooru later pacified protesters and assured them that they will take up the issue of electricity shortage with the concerned department.
