Ladakhis to continue struggle for UT status
12/29/2015 11:57:02 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 29 : The Ladakhis have not given up their demand for grant of UT status to region and the representatives of the people of the region are strongly raising it at national as well as State level.
Though the region fully backed the BJP in recently held LAHDC elections but the people of the region continued the demand on its top agenda. The BJP during the Lok Sabha elections and prior to that had openly supported this demand saying Ladakh region is facing lot of discrimination and they deserve to be given their due.
To intensify their struggle for grant of UT status to Ladakh region earlier the people of this hilly belt had constituted the Ladakh UT front to spearhead the struggle and later it was fully backed by present MP from the region. Besides the leaders of various political parties including BJP fully supported it. Though political Pundits were of the opinion that the people of the region will maintain a silence on the demand after BJP came to power both at Centre and in the State. But proving them wrong the BJP leaders of the region including the MP, councilors and a minister in the State Government took up the issue with Prime Minister, BJP national president and other senior leaders of the party at Delhi.
These leaders have not only taken up the demand before the Centre and State Government but also they have resolved to take the on going struggle to a decisive conclusion to save the region from growing discrimination through the hands of State rulers who have altogether neglected the Ladakh. Justifying the demand the leaders of Ladakh said that their long standing problems will only end after the region is given a UT status. The said that the huge funds given by Centre do not reach to the region due to the discriminatory approach of the State governments towards the people of the region. They have made it clear to PM, Shah and other BJP leaders that the Ladakhis were not till date paid the relief for the damages suffered by farmers in 2010 flash floods and cloud burst and no headway was made to assess the damages caused during last years heavy floods while the compensation was paid to the flood victims of last in the rest parts of the State.
