Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 30: Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur RS Jain today awarded four years rigorous imprisonment to Jeet Singh who was facing trial in attacking police.
According to the police case during the search for accused in FIR No.105/2012 for offence u/s 341/307 RPC on 26.7.2012 at about 9.30 A.M., the police officer Rajesh Angral came to know that accused Jeet singh is at his residence and the officer raided the house and during the raid, accused Jeet Singh having a criminal intention attacked the police party and with a drat having an intention to murder, tried to hit HC Radhay Sham on the head but to save himself, the said HC raised his left hand and the drat hit his hand and injured him grievously. During this period, the accused throwing the drat ran away. Accordingly FIR No. 107/2012 for offence u/s 307/353/332 RPC was registered in police station Ramnagar against accused.
Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur Mr. RS Jain after hearing both the sides observed that 12. No leniency can be shown to persons who have no respect for law and order and consider themselves to be un-amenable to the laws created for an orderly society. A person like the accused in the present case who does not hesitate to take the law into his hands does not deserve any leniency, and any indulgence by the court under these circumstances, can be misplaced. The action of the accused if left unpunished would send a signal to the society that the persons who can attack a police force can very well spread terror in society.
The law and order situation has been deteriorating in the country in the recent past. Instances of young persons getting involved in criminal activities are also on the rise. Undue sympathy, under these circumstances, to impose inadequate sentence, would do more harm to the justice system and undermine the public confidence in the efficacy of law, and society could not long endure under such serious threats. With these observations Court awarded four years RI u/s 333 RPC (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servanct from his duty) to Jeet Singh.
