Mehbooba may take charge soon! | Mufti on oxygen therapy, being monitored by AIIMS experts | | Abbas Ali
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 30: Even as Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been hospitalized in the national capital since December 24, speculations are rife in political circles here that his daughter and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti may soon replace her father as Chief Minister of the state. Sources said Mufti, who is admitted at AIIMS, has expressed his desire before senior leaders of BJP that given his ailing health, it was high time to pave way for handover of power to his daughter. Sources said the deliberations are into consideration. Sources said though last month the BJP leadership had agreed to this plan, shockingly some of the leaders from within the PDP, enjoying "good connections with national level leadership had tactfully sabotaged the plan to meet their vested interests." Thereafter though the proposal had come on backburner, now due to Mufti's health, it's again into active consideration. Sources, however, said that Mehbooba is in no mood to replace her father as Chief Minister but wants him to continue. "We are trying to persuade Mehbooba Ji that she should consider our proposal in the interest of the people of Kashmir and party," said a PDP leader. Mufti, 79, is "presently sick requiring oxygen therapy" and his condition is being closely monitored by a team of experts at the AIIMS. "Sayeed, who is admitted in AB 8 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since December 24, is sick, requiring oxygen therapy but hemodynamically stable," the AIIMS authorities said today in a health bulletin. "He is conscious, alert and is taking orally. He continues to be on antibiotics, antifungal drugs and supportive therapy and is being closely monitored by a team of experts," a statement issued by the hospital said. Mufti, who was camping in Srinagar to review developmental works, was flown to Delhi in a state aircraft on December 24 and admitted in a private ward in AIIMS with complaints of fever and chest pain. Initially some voices within the PDP didn't want Mufti's health condition leak to media. Sources said a minister had asked the Information Department to issue press release that he was "absolutely fine". On the fateful day the official spokesman said that Mufti had "proceeded to New Delhi for consultation and health checkup at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)". "Chief minister undertook a hectic six-hour-long tour of Srinagar city on Tuesday amidst intense cold after which he complained of exhaustion. "On Wednesday he took complete rest at his official residence. It felt appropriate to proceed to the union capital for consultation and medical check up," said the spokesman, adding Sayeed's "health is absolutely fine and he is taking rest". Though the state government continued to give the same notion, today the AIIMS formally issued a health bulletin confirming that Mufti was unwell and in the Intensive Care Unit of this super-specialty hospital. The health bulletin was released a day after, Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited AIIMS to enquire about his health and wished him speedy recovery. Mufti took over as Chief Minister of a PDP-BJP alliance government on March 1, 2015. Mehbooba, who is seen as the woman of substance, is considered as the bet for the chair of Chief Minister. Mehbooba,is the seen as the main driving force behind success of PDP in the state. |
