For BJP, state flag is a non-issue

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 30: The J&K High Court's ruling on the State Flag has triggered a massive controversy in the country. The national media has questioned the ruling and batted for one constitution and one flag. It is an important development in the sense that it has taken upon itself the task of bringing J&K closer to India by attacking the state's separate constitution, as also by attacking and exposing the BJP and its perverse ideology and its insatiable lust for power.
The parties like the Panthers Party have also made it a big issue. In fact, the Panthers have upped their ante against the BJP and charged it with betraying the national cause for the sake of power. It has said: "The coalition government had filed an affidavit before the J&K High Court categorically stating that non-hoisting of state flag along with National Flag would amount to an offence and, hence, attract criminal action against the offenders. While the coalition government's affidavit in court was always deemed to be joint statement of both the BJP and PDP, the saffron party owed an explanation to its electorates for dumping its kernel philosophy which had earned it 25 seats in the state. As the J&K High Court had only given its judgment on the basis of arguments put forth by the parties, the BJP needed to explain to the people as to what prompted it to subscribe to the PDP, NC and separatists slogan of "Do Nishan and Do Vidhan" in the state".
So much so, the Panthers Party has questioned the very authority of the High Court Bench that delivered a verdict on the state flag issue four days ago. On Tuesday, the Panthers under the leadership of the party's chairman organized an impressive protest in Jammu to expose the BJP's duplicity or double-speak and set the record straight by saying that the High Court's ruling on the state flag was the immediate fallout of the hobnobbing between the BJP and the PDP and that the BJP had been butchering and abusing Shyama Prasad Mookerjee on a daily-basis by going against the path that he charted way back in 1953 by sacrificing his precious life in Srinagar in a make-shift jail on June 23 that year. Mookerjee, who had entered the state from Lakhanpur - Gateway to the state - after willfully violating the obnoxious permit system, was found dead in mysterious circumstances. It is alleged that he was poisoned by the criminals and anti-nationals employed by the NC Government of the time. However, the media's blistering attacks and the no-holds-barred campaign unleashed by the Panthers and other integrationists, including internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus and several civil society groups in Jammu have failed to move the perverted BJP. Even the admirers of the BJP like Bollywood actor Anupam Kher and film director Ashok Pandit have condemned the BJP in their own style and questioned the very nationalistic credentials of the so-called saffron party, but with no result.
Contrarily, the has taken the stand that it doesn't have the required strength in the J&K Assembly and in the Parliament to amend the constitution to bring J&K at par with other states of the Union. It has only adopted a vague stand and its stand is against what it stood for before May 2014: "Ek Desh Mein Do Vidhan, Do Nissan and Do Pradhan Nahin Challenge, Nahin Challenege". Since the provision already exists in the constitution, we have no other option but to respect it is the BJP's line. It doesn't say that it will come out of the government to prove its nationalistic credentials.
What is the whole truth? The whole truth is that the BJP abandoned its ideology much before joining the government in J&K. The PDP-BJP agenda of alliance clearly says that the special status of the state shall be maintained. The BJP has been honouring the agenda of alliance more than the PDP and this can be seen from the fact that the ministers' cars fitted with the state flag enter the BJP headquarters - Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan, Jammu, almost everyday.
The BJP will have to pay a very heavy price in the days to come because of its sins, because of its double-speak, because of its politics of bluff, deceit and emotional blackmail, as also because of the grave wrong that it committed by subverting the mandate. Believe it or not but the fact of the matter is that the BJP has fallen from grace and become a laughing stock all across the country with the people, cutting across party lines, terming the BJP as the most unscrupulous, utterly undependable outfit.
