'Opportunistic' BJP wants rotational CM, more Ministries | Mufti's failing health | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 30: Amid speculations that Jammu and Kashmir may witness change in guard as doctors have advised the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to take rest, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are trying their best to take advantage of the emerging situation. Sources told Early Times a few BJP leaders have informed the party high command to strike a better deal with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which could prove beneficial for the BJP. Sources revealed that official confirmation about Mufti not being well is making BJP leaders believe that PDP may announce the change of guard in the state and Mufti's daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the PDP President, may don the shoes of her father. However, PDP youth president Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra while talking to Early Times said, "Mufti Sayeed is absolutely fine and much better than before. We hope he would recover soon and take the charge." Insiders said that BJP leaders want the high command to make PDP agree to rotate the Chief Minister's post after 3-years if there is change of guard in the state. "When PDP and BJP joined hands situation was different as we unanimously decided that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed would hold the CM's chair for next six years as he is the senior most leader in the state," they added. "If PDP wants to hand over the top post to any other leader it would have to take us into confidence first and agree to our demand to change the Chief Minister after 3-years. We are not against anyone holding the top post but we should also get our due share," said a BJP leader. He claimed that despite BJP having twenty eight seats party is acting like a "second fiddle." "As it's when portfolios were distributed BJP got a small share despite party having 28 seats in the assembly. We don't want history to repeat itself," the leader said. "We are hopeful that Mufti sahib would get well soon and would continue as the Chief Minister as he is great a statesman and a visionary." Sources revealed that BJP trying to put conditions at this juncture when Chief Minister is not well has not gone well with the PDP leaders. "Our first priority at this point of time is the health of Mufti sahib. If BJP has issues it can wait till the Chief Minister recovers," said a PDP leader. "Our president (Mehbooba Mufti) is busy attending her father and no discussions can be held with her at this point of time. BJP leaders should understand the gravity of the situation and then talk," he added.
