SRINAGAR, Dec 30: Despite being rebuked by a union minister the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government in the state is yet to pull up its socks and ensure proper rehabilitation of people living in the border areas affected by shelling from across the border.
The coalition government in the state is virtually playing 'politics' over this purely humanitarian issue.
The people at helm are non-serious in this matter and as such the affected families have been forced to feel the heat with nobody coming to their rescue.
Minister of State (MoS) in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Dr. Jitendra Singh had few days back held the Department of Revenue of Jammu & Kashmir responsible for delay in the proposal to hand over five marlas of plot (one each) for the border residents.
"Even after finalizing 80 kanals of land in Hiranagar area of Kathua district the state revenue department is sitting over the file and has not yet completed the formalities. I am on the job and I have once again raised the issue of delay on the part of the state government agency in the matter," Dr. Singh told media persons during a press conference in Jammu.
Sources told Early Times that Minister for Revenue, Javed Mustafa Mir is non-serious in this matter and as such is not taking pains in ensuring that rehabilitation of people badly hit by shelling takes place at the earliest.
Mir has issued directions 'clandestinely' to the officials to go slow on the process since he has no stakes in the same.
"Mir is a legislator of PDP and the party has its base in Kashmir.
The PDP has no interest whatsoever in the rehabilitation of people living near the border who have been affected by shelling from Pakistan. The whole process is going on at a tardy pace and it would take ages for the process to be completed," said sources.
Sources said that Minister for Revenue knows well that even if takes years and years for rehabilitation of people affected by shelling he does not need to worry. The delay in rehabilitation of people affected by shelling would come up as disadvantage to BJP with PDP have very few stakes in the whole matter.
"Ever since the formation of PDP-BJP government in the state; BJP has been claiming that people affected by shelling would be rehabilitated in a dignified manner.
The present dispensation in the state is around 10 months old, but the issue of people hit by shelling from across the border continues to linger on with no relief in sight. The affected people believe that they have been ditched and the BJP might have to pay for it," said sources.
Repeated attempts to contact Minister for Revenue, Javed Mustafa Mir failed since the minister did not deem it fit to attend to frequent calls made by this correspondent over the past couple of days. The minister also did not reply back to the messages sent in this regard on his mobile phone.
