Power or credibility: BJP in political quagmire | | | Abodh Sharma ET Report jammu, Dec 30: The judgment of the State High Court has brought the saffron party to the cross roads of its political journey in J&K, where it assumed power for the first time in coalition with ideologically opposed PDP. It can either walk out from the coalition advocating that it cannot make a complete somersault from its known position on dual flag or try to hoodwink public opinion through meek, unconvincing statements of its leaders. The party has evidently chosen the convenient second option to stay in power, but the statements of party leaders are sounding disgustingly unpersuasive. "No flag can be leveled equal to the national flag. It is a decision of the High Court. It is legal matter. It shall be dealt legally," Dy CM Nirmal Singh said, forgetting that the tallest leader of his party Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee made supreme sacrifice in J&K seeking 'Ek Nishan'. The statements of the BJP leaders following judgment of the State High Court with regards to 'sovereignty' of the state of Jammu and Kashmir has woefully exposed the saffron party viz a viz its complete ideological departure from core issues ; but the hypocrisy of the BJP Ministers was on display ever since the party formed coalition government with the PDP. Astoundingly, the BJP Ministers, who till not very long ago were swearing by 'one flag' besides one constitution and one leader were hoisting two flags on their gleaming SUVs ever since they assumed power. The practice was going on unnoticed, but none of the BJP Ministers had removed state flag from his official car. Losing substantially on its political credibility for compromising on its core ideological issues like uniform civil code, article 370, it has been caught completely off guard following recent judgment of the State High Court that did not only uphold the separate constitution of J&K, its right to have Sardr-i-Riyasat and its own flag, but also called for criminal proceedings against those government functionaries, not respectfully displaying state flag atop their offices and official vehicles.
