Use of bogus voters in LAHDC polls surfaces after 3 months | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report PULWAMA, Dec 30: Almost after three months of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development council (LAHDC) elections of District Leh, alleged use of bogus voting surfaced after one independent candidate wrote to authorities for time bound probe and Re-polling on Diskit Seat. One independent candidate Tsewang Rigzin of Diskit-Leh constituency who in a triangular contest in LAHDC Polls was defeated by another independent candidate Tsering Angchuk told early times that Angchuk allegedly with the help of few influential people of the area used bogus voters to defeat him. Rigzin who claims use of 200 to 300 bogus voters by his rival in LAHDC-Leh polls held in the month of October this year said that he had shot a letter to District election Commissioner for time bound probe and re-polling immediately after results were announced but even after three months no action was taken in this regard. A letter Rigzin wrote to Deputy Commissioner Leh reads that "I demanded re-polling of Diskit constituency on ground of many undemocratic methods being used to ensure the victory of independent candidate during the recently concluded LAHDC election." In a triangular contest Rigzin who claims use bogus voters according to details secured 299 votes against 858 of successful independent candidate Tsering Angchuk while third BJP candidate of same Diskit constituency secured 774 votes. "I had to delay the follow up of the case to this day due to some unavoidable domestic circumstances, nevertheless, I shall not let this issue go unattended, I would like to repeat what all happened during the election at Polling Station No. 26, Diskit, of 3-Diskit LAHDC constituency, the incident murdered the very spirit of democracy in the village. Few influential individuals decided to field an independent candidate from the village itself and no other political parties were allowed to campaign in the village, finally bogus votes were cast in the most unconstitutional way." Letter of Rigzin to Deputy Commissioner reads. When Early times contacted accused successful independent candidate Tsering Angchuk said that elections were held under the supervision of deputed representatives of government and turns down allegations of use of bogus voters by him in LAHDC polls. "It is natural that when a person faces defeat he starts waving his hands and accuses others for his defeat instead pondering for reasons of defeat, all allegations of Tsewang Rigzin are baseless as no bogus voters were used during elections at any place."Angchuk Told Early Times LAHDC polls of Leh District were held in the month of October this year in which BJP for the first time secured record 18 seats, congress 5, independent 1 and NC 2 and Dr Dawa of BJP was elected as the Chief Executive councilor.
