MC Banihal halts 'cable laying work' after executing agency damages footpath | Slaps an estimate of damage Rs 2 lakh to contractor | |  Danish Muzafar

Banihal, Mar 5: Taking stern action against the contractor executing the cable laying work for damaging 'foot path' in Banihal of Ramban district, the Executive Officer from Municipal Committee (MC) Banihal halted the ongoing work undertaken by contractor engaged by Reliance Communion Company after reported damage to the 'Foot path tiles' Pertinently the said contractor has been assigned 'cable laying works' for Reliance Communion Company across the Banihal town on Jammu Srinagar highway. Sources said the contractor has impressed his men to lay the cable in Banihal town late yesterday evening who reportedly damaged the cemented tiles of foot path while laying cable across the town. Locals who initially intervened at their own and appealed the 'men at work' who surprisingly turned deaf ear to their pleas and thus they immediately informed Executive Officer Municipal Committee (MC) Banihal in this regard. On receiving information Executive Officer Zubaida Begum rushed to the spot with her enforcement team and informed the local police also. Escorted with police the enforcement wing of MC Banihal led by Executive Officer MC Banihal stopped the work. Executive officer Zubaida Begum when contacted told 'Early Times' that after receiving the information she rushed to the spot and after taking stock of situation. After realizing the damage done to beautification of town, she passed directions to stop the work the at site. She also said that the company and the contractor are working within the municipal limits of Banihal town on highway without any prior permission from MC Banihal. Officer said they have to compensate an estimate of damage of Rs 2 lakhs and the copies of estimated fine has been sent to the company authorities and to the contractor Manzoor Ahmed wani also who is engaged for the said work by the company. Executive officer also said that no one is above the law and action will be taken against law violators and none shall be spared if found violating Municipal Rules. |
