Kishtwar, Mar 5: A day after Early Times published the news report highlighting delay in construction of 13 km Dunadi-Bunjwah road, JKPCC deputy general manager today said it would be completed by the end of December 2016 subject to the condition that farmers, whose land would be acquired for the road project, would not create hurdles.
When contacted, deputy GM, JKPCC, Kishtwar, Pardeep Sharma said Rs 1147.52 lakh worth road was handed over to JKPCC by PWD (R&B) in March 2010 for upgradation and improvement of the existing road stretch.
He said the cost of Rs 1147.52 lakh excluded land, fruit and structural compensation which was to be paid by R&B department. He said after allotment of the contract to JKPCC, they started the work in June 2010 and added that due to land compensation issues, the people from time to time stopped the construction work and did not allow to carry it forward till compensation was paid to them.
He said that in case there was fast track disposal of land acquisition cases and clearance of bottle neck areas, JKPCC would complete the project by December 2016 with 8 m road width and black-topping. He said the department had already spent Rs 993 lakh out of the sanctioned amount and added that rest of the work would be completed in stipulated time.
To a question regarding demand of revision of the schedule rates, Sharma said it was a matter between the contractor and the department, but added that this would not affect the project.
It is pertinent to mention here that a deputation of inhabitants of Bunjwah and its adjoining areas had on Friday met the deputy commissioner, Kishtwar, and apprised him of the slow pace of work by JKPCC on Dunadi-Bunjwah road. They had urged him to direct JKPCC and the contractor to finish the road widening and cutting of rocks prior to agriculture season so that their crops were saved.
