Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 5: Following the recent reshuffle in Police Department, three senior officers were taken aback by their transfers to 'undesired' places while two others, who were almost sure of their postings at the places of their choice, were not even touched. While all the five had been assured by police headquarters (PHQ) of choice postings, the transfer list startled them and made them jump back in surprise. A DIG, who had been serving in Kashmir since long, was assured of a posting in Jammu region, but he was posted at PHQ. This disappointed him because he had never thought of such an 'insignificant' posting. An SSP-rank officer was also shocked by the transfers. He wanted to be posted as SSP, Jammu. However, while he made efforts, activating all his resources for the choice posting, another SSP, who headed a district in Jammu region, too jumped into the fray. He even got his name recommended from senior officers, but when the transfer list became public, he was surprised to find that he was not even touched. The other officer was posted in Jammu. Another officer, who was additional SP in Jammu and has also run the affairs of Jammu SSP's office for a few months, was sure of a posting as SSP of any district in Kashmir and had even conveyed this to his acquaintances. He too was given a posting, which, according to him, was unimportant to be worth consideration. He was a regular visitor to the houses of some ex-ministers of BJP who had assured him to get him posted as SSP in Kashmir, according to police sources. A senior officer posted at Udhampur too expected his posting in Jammu, but he was neither posted in Jammu nor to another place he had opted for as a second choice. He continues to serve at Udhampur as he was not transferred. Another senior officer, who was posted in Jammu but had been on leave, had also activated his resources for a posting as SSP of a district. Since SSP of the district, he wanted to head, was not transferred, he was given a 'better' place in Jammu, replacing another officer who was posted as commandant of a battalion. |
