Jammu, Mar 5: The contractual appointments of Assistant Professors in University of Jammu have come under question with people accusing the university violating UGC guidelines of 2009.
Sources informed Early Times that for each academic session, University of Jammu invited applications for selection of contractual Assistant Professors in various departments and also for the offsite campuses of University.
"Despite UGC regulations of 2009, Minimum Standard Procedure (MSP) certificate was not sought and Ph.D candidates were also selected for the posts, who had not qualified National Eligibility Test (NET)", sources alleged.
Sources further said that it was very much shocking that University authorities were unaware about the issue during the contractual appointments in various departments. "The issue only came to fore after Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) rejected the MSP certificates issued by Jammu as well as Kashmir University and if there will be no intervention of JKPSC, the violations of UGC regulations would continue in varsity", sources said.
They further said that contractual appointments were made for six months and there were reports that same would be renewed without giving any consideration to UGC regulations.
An official of Jammu University, pleading anonymity said that it was not only the UGC regulations but a Supreme Court decision, so there was no issue of violation by University. "In the contractual appointments in University and offsite campuses, there is very tough competition among the candidates and to my best knowledge there can be one or two candidates", he said.
He further said that University of Jammu has been following the UGC regulations, which was also evident from the rescheduling of interviews in Geology and Mining department. "As per UGC regulations we will once again re-fix the interviews", he said.
