GMC&H approaches Div Com for taking back attendants' sarai | | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 8: Anguished over alleged apathetic attitude of India Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu toward attendants' sarai which is being maintained by it, administration of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu has approached Divisional Commissioner Jammu for taking back Attendants' Sarai advocating that the attendant Sarai was not being put to optimum use. Pertinently, the Sarai at Maheshpura Chowk has the capacity of accommodating 150 persons and the building was constructed at a cost of Rs 3.29 Crore. After completion, the building was handed over to the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) for its management, which in turn had fixed Rs 50 per person per bed charge for general masses and Rs 30 for Below Poverty Line (BPL) category attendants and Rs 10 per person per meal. Sources in GMC&H Jammu told Early Times that the Sarai was not being put to optimum use as the attendants were barely accommodated in it. Moreover, Sources claimed that the cumbersome formalities for getting bed at Attendant Sarai have been restraining the patients from getting shelter at Attendant Sarai. "Whenever some attendant goes to the Sarai, the officials at Sarai seek various documents from patients in a bid to drive them away", he said. "The arrogance of officials at the Sarai could be gauged from the fact that whenever, we visit the Sarai, the main gate is always locked as if it is a private property, "Sources alleged. The attendants prefer to spend nights in corridors of GMC&H due to rude and unwarranted behaviour of the officials of IRCS manning the Sarai. Divisional Commissioner Dr Pawan Kotwal could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. |
