MHA's KP committee draws flak | Influential parachuted in committee, allege KPs | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report jammu, Mar 8: Trashing the long pending demand of Kashmiri Pandits for conducting elections in townships, a committee has reportedly been parachuted by Ministry of Home Affairs, constitution of which has been drawing flak from some Kashmiri Pandits, who allege that ignoring the deserving ones, influentials have got berth in it. Claims of BJP after winning Lok-Sabha Election 2014 to rehabilitate internally displaced community ended up in a naught as instead of conducting elections as demanded by the community, MHA constituted ten members committee to monitor distribution of ration. "We demanded elections at par with local bodies in Township col displaced community since long but to no avail", said Sunil Pandita, AAP activist from Jagti Town. He said that it reflect how serious our Prime Minister is for the welfare of community. "The day when union Government came into power, PM Narendra Modi made repeated claims to rehabilitate the community, but nothing on ground has been done", he said, adding that even ration supply and cash relief being given to the community got derailed. "More than 35 per cent population of displaced KPs living in camps in Jammu is on verge of starvation", said Ajay another inmate of Jagti Township. "They are fully dependent on ration and cash relief being provided to them. Since most of the families have no more sources of income, they are worst victim of Govt's so-called rehabilitation policy, which is nowhere in sight for past 26 years", he added. Displaced Kashmiri Pandits are being used as political issue during elections by the political parties, said Girdhari Lal, an inmate of Muthi Township. Terming constitution of a committee recently by MHA an eyewash, he said that influentials got parachuted in the committee for so-called betterment of the community. "These leaders have nothing to do with the community, as some of these leaders are facing corruption charges and are under scanner of anti-graft agencies. The Relief Commissioner in an attempt to cover-up wrong doings of the Relief Organization recommended some of his close aide", he alleged. "Only Jagti Township has more than 135 organizations fighting for cause of KPs, unfortunately nothing has changed. Similarly, there are number of organizations within each township including Purkhoo, Nagrota and Muthi but our plight remains unchanged", said Rakesh Koul, a Kashmiri Pandit. The community has strongly demanded constitution of local bodies in each township so that their elected representatives could fight for the cause of people. Commissioner Relief Organization, RK Pandita did not respond to calls for comment. |
