Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Mar 8: The General Line Teachers who were appointed in the education department are without salaries since last one year. Authorities have failed to redress genuine demands of these teachers across Kashmir valley.
Sources told Early Times that in April 2015 almost 800 General Line Teachers were appointed in the education department by the Services Selection Board (SSB). Eight hundred teachers were appointed under DSEK order no: 877-DSEK of 2015, dated 01/04/2015 and no teacher has received their salary till date.
A teacher Fayaz Ahmad (name changed) said, "I was appointed as General Line Teacher (GLT) in education department but over the last one year I have not received a penny as salary and my family has come to starvation."
This teacher said that he made almost 100 rounds to the Zonal Education Office and Chief Education Office, Baramulla for his salary, but of no avail. He said that concerned officials provided excuse on one or other pretext. The officials told him that they have not received 10 percent share under New Pension Scheme (NPS) from central government.
Another teacher said, "many times in recent past I visited the Director Education Office at Srinagar to get my salary released, but unfortunately the concerned employees there didn't paid any heed to my pleas."
Without naming anybody, this teacher said the 'corruption' and 'malpractices' in education department has left hundreds of teachers to suffer on one or the other pretext, due to which they are facing tremendous hardship in day to day life.
Teachers from other North Kashmir districts Kupwara and Bandipora have a same tale to tell. These teachers said that they fail to understand that why central government is not releasing 10 percent share under NPS where as 90 percent salary was supposed to release from state government.
"We were told that they (Education department) don't have enough funds for releasing of our salary and can't do anything in this regard. Even though formal orders were issued to us but the central government is not releasing allocated funds to the state government, due to which we are suffering badly. The concerned department is compelling us to come to streets and raise our genuine demands which have not been met yet," said teachers.
Early Times made repeated attempts to contact Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. Shah Faesal for his version, but his mobile was either switched off or not reachable.
