Poonch, Mar 8: : While the community informatics centres (CISs), set up in six blocks of Poonch district, are alleged to be functioning in a very pitiable condition, CIC, Mendhar, has become totally defunct. Of the total 11 blocks, including the five which were created newly, CISs were set up in 6 to provide important information to villagers in various fields such as agriculture, education and health. "These CICs were in a bad condition even as equipments worth lakhs of rupees have been installed in each centre," sources said, adding CIC at Mendhar had become defunct for the last nine years. Those at the helm of affairs should be made accountable for not maintaining properly the CICs in Poonch district, sources said. When contacted, Assistant Commissioner Development, Basharat Ahmed said he had no information about CICs of the district, but said he would personally look into the matter. He said he would ask Block Development Offices to make available to him all the details about CICs.
