KPs continue protest, refuse to accept ration as per NFSA | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 8: For the first time in last 27 years of their exile from the Valley, the Kashmiri Pandits were deprived of ration supply on holy festival of Maha Shivratri on Sunday. The displaced Pandits held protest demonstrations in various camps against the callousness of the government towards them and alleged that this has shown that the government was least bothered for the welfare of the community. The protestors at Jagti did not accept the ration for the month of February and March as well, demadning that the government should continue to provide the ration as per old scale and not on the basis of NFSA scale. Peeved over callousness of the government the migrants from Jagti township have decided to march towards Raj Bhawan on Wednesday and hold a massive protest there. "We are left with no alternative but to protest in front of Raj Bhawan," said Sanjay Raina a representative of Jagti camp. The government should clear its stand and policies towards the community, he said, adding that on one hand "it has failed to provide protection to us in Kashmir and restore our homeland to us and on the other hand it is depriving the community of the various concessions given to it as migrants''. The migrants said that government should first confirm their status under what category the displaced people fall. "We are living an exiled life for last over 26 years and have been hounded out from Valley by terrorists backed by Pakistan. For our survival the Government has sanctioned relief and ration to the migrants which is being debited to security related expenses and henceit can't be linked to NFSA'', said Desh Rattan, president All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee. Rattan ridiculed the government decision to provide ration to migrants as per NFSA said that it can't be applicable to the displaced people as having no other source of income they are unable to bear the expenses of ration. Rattan termed the decision a total callousness on the part of the government which seems to turns a blind eye towards the problems of displaced people. He warned Pandits will launch a decisive battle for their honour and dignity as it was none else but the government which was playing with our self esteem It may be recalled that one day ahead of Maha Shivratri Pandits continued their protest before the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita who had visited the Jagticamp along with Director CAPD to sort out the issue. The protestors refused to accept ration as per new scale and made it clear that the old scale should continue as the migrants relief and ration is debited to security related expenses. The protestors also blocked Highway at Jagti by pass for some time but later dispersed on the intervention of police. They had warned to launch agitation after Maha Shivratri against the Government decision and alleged that on one hand the Government has failed to restore their homeland to them and on the other hand it is depriving them of relief benefits. This shows that Kashmiri Pandits have no right to survive in the country. The migrants are also critical of KP leadership saying that they resort to protests seeking their place in coordination and apex committees. They have failed to raise the genuine issues of migrants and only betrayed the community said Vijay Kaul a relief holder of Jagti. He said the leadership is totally silent over the issue and it did not bother to take up the same with government which it was supposed to. He said there is total resentment among the displaced people and they did not celebrate the Shivratri in protest and continued the protests. He alleged the displaced Pandits were betrayed by both Government as well as community leadership. Meanwhile the protest demonstration were also held at Purkhoo, Muthi and Nagrota migrant camps today by the displaced people and they warned to frame a joint committee of all camps and non camp localities to fight this injustice. Meanwhile BJP MLC Surinder Ambardar has expressed serious concern over the situation created in camps due to delay in supply of ration and appealed the Government that migrants be provided ration under the migrant category as a special case till their honourable return and rehabilitation in Valley. |
