Rajouri, Mar 8: While Sub-District hospital (SDH), Sunderbani, is faced with dearth of doctors and para-medical staff, vital departments of ENT, paediatrics and skin are too alleged to be nowhere in sight. The vital departments, like anaesthesia, ENT, paediatrics and dermatology were non-existing while there was no surgeon posted in the hospital, official sources alleged. "There is a sanctioned staff strength of 32, including doctors and paramedics, but the hospital is at present run by only six doctors, including Block Medical Officer, with the help of a few ASHA workers," sources informed. "People from far off come to this hospital for treatment of various ailments, but there are no specialist doctors to treat them. The vital departments of anaesthesia, paediatrics and dermatology also missing. The SDH also does not have a surgeon. Due to the shortage of staff, patients are referred to the district hospital, Rajouri. The hospital does not have the basic amenities even as patients from nearby Pouni, which falls in Reasi district, come here for their treatment. The population of Sunderbani is over 40,000 souls, and people from Devak Hathal, Barnara and Patadala also visit this hospital," sources said. When contacted, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Rajouri, said he had no details about the hospital staff shortage. "Give me a few days, I will let you know the details," he added. Director Health Services, Jammu, did not pick up the phone despite repeated calls. Alleging that the hospital had so far received step-motherly treatment from the government, locals have appealed to the state governor to upgrade it to the level of a speciality hospital.
