Landslide forces Dharam-Gool families to abandon home | | | Early Times Report
BANIHAL, Mar 8: Residents of the Dharam Gool area of Ramban district have been forced to abandon their settlements due to landslides. Atleast 50 Families have been forced to shift to the safer places. Sources said that from past two month of land sliding reported in Dharam village of Gool has damaged some fifty houses falling in the impact of land slide zone. "Acting promptly the district administration Ramban has shifted 50 families of the area to safer places alongwith their house hold items, cattle and other movable belongings," said District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ramban Bashir Ahmed Dar. He said, "The tents and other materials are being provided to the affected families." DDC Ramban said that 26 kanals of land are already identified for these families and they (affected) will be shifted to the identified place. He added that district administration has shifted all the families whose houses are prone to land slide. Locals said that from past more than two months a big chunk of land is sliding in the area which is posing huge threat to the locals living in the foothills of sliding areas. They said that today this loosened piece of land started moving down hill posing more danger to the people living in the area and thus they shifted their families immediately to safer places. Meanwhile a team from district administration and police also reached to the area to facilitate the safe shifting the affected families. |
