Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, May 7: Defying orders of district administration and education department which had issued directions to all schools not to ask parents to buy books or uniforms from a particular shop, some private schools and stationary/book shops are forcing the students to purchase books, uniforms and stationery from designated shops.
As per local reports some private schools are selling books and uniforms on their campus, violating the guidelines issued by the district administration.
Here it needs to mention that district administration carried out extensive inspection in private schools, stationery shops, sale outlets in many complaints of students and parents after complaints in regard to exorbitant charges and over pricing of the books in the month of April.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary had constituted a team headed by Addl Deputy Commissioner Agnrez Singh Rana, Chief Education Officer Bishen Singh, and Deputed Zonal Magistrates for inspection of the schools and outlets and initiate action.
Following orders the team inspected more than 30 shops and schools and grave irregularities and unfair trade practices were noticed in the day long inspections and accordingly stringent action has been recommended against erring management and businessmen.
Meanwhile reacting to complaints related to exorbitant fee and overpricing and overcharging of fee and books and shopkeepers Legal Metrology issued notices for overcharging an offence punishable offence under Consumer Protection Act-1987.
Ironically majority of book sellers continue to over charging and fleecing the customers, locals alleged.
Sanjay Gupta while talking to Early Times lamented that despite Education Minister has been claiming to provide healthy education Private schools have been allegedly violating norms to make easy money while Chief Education Officer Udhampur too seems adopting 'Nelson's Eye approach' towards the menace and the students and their parents are facing problems for their no fault.
