BJP of today is different from BJP of 2008 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 7: J&K BJP on Friday held a meeting to listen to the grievances of party legislators and leaders against its ministers and iron out differences between them. It was held following many complaints that the ministers were not accessible and that their style of functioning was harming the party. Ironically, not a single BJP MLA, MLC and party functionary raked up the issue of Jammu's political neglect and marginalization. Nor did any of the BJP legislators and party functionaries talk about the party's ideology and the negative impact of the policies of the PDP-BJP coalition government on the Jammu's polity, economy and society. It was basically a meeting in which personal interests were highlighted. A senior party functionary told this correspondent on the condition of anonymity that the "party has completely deviated from its ideology" and "Jammu will be reduced to the status of Kashmir's colony sooner than later in case his party continued to behave in the manner it has been behaving since March 2015". 'It is not the BJP of 2008, when it used to talk about Jammu, Jammu's interests, Jammu's psyche, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhaya, national integration and refugees from Pakistan and POJK. Today's BJP is the replica of the Congress party. It is worse than the Congress. It's is B-team of the PDP and its only role is to endorse the PDP's decisions and implement them ruthlessly and help its coalition partner promote not only its ideology and advance its agenda but also help it meet the needs of its Kashmiri constituency at the cost of Jammu," he told, adding that "I, like many in the party, am feeling suffocated". "There is none in the party who is prepared to listen to our genuine views; it's has become a Kashmiri party. Its leadership has taken a U-turn to the extent that it is officially terming Anantnag as Islamabad. The party leadership knows that the BJP would bite dust in case elections are held today, but it is not willing to take corrective measures. It appears, the party leadership in the state and at the centre has been working at the behest of some hidden forces, which want to destroy not only the party but also the people of Jammu and Ladakh," a legislator said on the condition of anonymity, adding that the "party leadership and ministers have created a situation that has made us virtually untouchable". "It has become difficult for us to face the people, as they call as agents of Kashmir". "The BJP is betraying Jammu and its cause and has turned so callous and irresponsible that it refuses to talk about the plight of the non-local students of the NIT Srinagar, as also about the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) completely overlooking the fact that all the Kashmiri parties and all the separatists have joined hands against the Supreme Court's order. It would be foolish to expect anything good from the party that has lost its moorings and way," the legislator further said. He added "If things remained as they are, the possibility of committed cadres quitting the party can't be overruled". "Such is the situation," he further said. However, his most significant statement was that the "high command has directed the state leadership to keep its mouth shut and not make any political statement". "We are debarred from making any statement political or otherwise," he said, adding that "it is not a party in the real sense of the term" and that "it is no more than a private limited company controlled very tightly by the high command". He further said that the "party leadership failed to bridge the gulf between the ministers and legislators" and described the meeting a "failure". "If the party ministers can't take along the party legislators, how could they do anything for the people," he asked. There appears something seriously wrong with the BJP. The BJP must rise to the occasion and appreciate the Jammu mandate. It will be in its own interest, in the interest of the people of Jammu region as well as the nation's interest. |
