Srinagar, May 7: Three top militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfits were killed by security forces in an overnight encounter in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. Police sources said a joint team of police and army cordoned-off Panzgama in Pulwama after receiving an information about the presence of militants in the village. As security forces began conducting a search operation, three militants fired upon them. Fire was returned. An Army spokesman said in the ensuing gunbattle, three militants were eliminated and a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including three AK rifles along with six magazines and 85 rounds were recovered from the encounter site. The slain militants were identified as Ashfaq Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Ahmad Dar of Dogirpora, Ishfaq Ahmadd Baba, son of Ghulam Qadir Baba of Tahab, and Hasib Ahmad Palla, son og Ghulam Mohammad Palla of Bandyum. While Ashfaq and Ishfaq, who were active since 2014, belonged to HM, Hasib belonged to LeT. After the gunbattle was over, a grenade blast occurred at the encounter site, resulting in injuries to a civilian who standing there along with other people. He was admitted to SKIMS hospital. His condition was said to be stable. |
