Pawan Gupta slams BJP for ignoring interests of Jammuites | 'Party has meekly surrendered to PDP' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 7: Blaming BJP leadership for compromising and meekly surrendering before the PDP, Udhampur MLA and former minister Pawan Gupta on Saturday said the saffron party was ignoring interests of people of Jammu region to remain in power. He also came down heavily on BJP leaders for tinkering with the security issues and coming closer to compromising with the security of the nation by advocating the need for demilitarisation from Kashmir valley and removing bunkers to pacify the local population. Addressing a press conference here Gupta claimed ever since the BJP has formed alliance with the PDP under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti it has been gradually compromising on the core ideology of the party. He said it looks like BJP has merged with the PDP. Referring to recent episode inside NIT Srinagar campus, Gupta said it is unfortunate the same BJP which took pride in organising special rallies to hoist Tricolor in Srinagar failed to come to the rescue of NIT Srinagar students who wanted to unfurl National Flag. He demanded an explanation from the BJP to clarify why it failed to act against the police officials who mercilessly beat up students and why so far no FIR's have been withdrawn against the students. Commenting on the recent Handwara incident, starting the process of vacating the land the occupancy of Army in Kashmir valley, demilitarisation, ending discrimination with the Jammu region Gupta said the party is warming up to the PDP and meekly surrendering. He alleged BJP has failed to acknowledge the sentiments of its core voters across Jammu region and ignoring their plight. Commenting on the pulls and pressures he is subjected to by the former BJP colleagues after he was not accommodated in the council of Ministers Gupta, said, "I am not power hungry. I have a strong DNA and I can stand up against the leaders hell bent upon ignoring the interests of the people of Jammu region." Commenting on the need for holding municipal polls Gupta said the alliance government is keen on postponing municipal polls and by-polls under the pretext of security situation and on the other hand the Chief Minister is holding public meetings. He issued a stern warning to the BJP claiming the manner in which the BJP is surrendering before the PDP the people of Jammu region who voted them to power would seek answers from them for completely ignoring their plight. He said it is very strange the killers of brave Army officer Captain Tushar Mahajan are organising cricket tournaments and we are feeling helpless. He further said, that the exodus of outstation students from NIT Srinagar was the reminder of days of 1990 which Kashmiri Pandits had to migrate from Kashmir keeping their homes and hearths there. Assailing the hypocritical role of BJP to tackle the issue of JNU,New Delhi and NIT Srinagar , which were totally diametrically in nature, he said that the agenda of BJP gets exposed to harm those who are pro-nationalism at the cost of anti-national elements thriving in Kashmir with its U-turn from allowing separatists to talk to any quarter to highlight their views, demilitarizing of Kashmir as well as demoralizing security forces, supporting Article 370, demolishing the bunkers, opposing NEET etc. |
