Mir pulled up for poor attendance in Cong protest | | | ET Report Jammu, May 7: The Congress high command is learnt to have pulled the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president G A Mir for his failure to bring adequate number of leaders for their participation in the party's protest march at New Delhi on Friday. Despite the high command's direction to all PCC presidents for ensuring maximum participation in the scheduled protest march, only a handful of Congressmen from J&K, approximately 18, reached New Delhi. Besides G A Mir and Sham Lal Sharma, only two MLCs, five MLAs and around 10 office bearers of the Pradesh Congress reached Delhi for participation in the much hyped protest march, which was led by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. The march was taken out in protest against alleged dictatorial and anti-democratic policies of the Modi Government besides its failure on different fronts. According to the sources, a meager participation by J&K Congressmen and alleged failure of G A Mir in this regard, irked the party high command, which has taken a serious notice of the same. Even as there was no formal notice in this regard, sources said that the high command has asked Mr Mir to explain the reason behind his inability to bring more Congressmen in the protest march. Though the PCC president tried to pass the buck and held factionalism responsible for the same, sources added that the high command did not acknowledge the plea and pulled him for his failure to rein in groupism in State unit of Congress even after more than a year since his assuming the office of PCC president. Following this development, sources hint that the PCC president is likely resort to some actions for establishing his authority in the party, which may provoke his opponents thus further intensifying factionalism in State Congress in the coming days. |
