Has Brig Anil quit BJP?
NEET row
5/8/2016 12:20:06 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 7: Has Brig Anil Gupta quit the BJP? Or, has he been removed from the office of party spokesperson, he held after Sat Sharma took over as the party chief in J&K? These were the two questions which a number of small time BJP workers on Saturdayasked to each other to know the truth.
What actually happened was that Brig Gupta on Friday issued a statement that criticized NC president Farooq Abdullah and his son and the party's working president Omar Abdullah for their statements on one National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for under-graduate medical courses throughout the country. The NC leaders were critical of the Supreme Court's recent order regarding NEET.
The statement of Brig Anil - apart from tearing into the NC leaders - endorsed the Supreme Court's observation on the state subject laws and its suggestion that all seats available in the government run medical colleges will go to the candidates belonging to J&K. Besides, his statement was appreciative of the state's special status as well as the NEET.
His statement, inter-alia, read: "It is therefore crystal clear that conduct of NEET in no way harm the interests of the students of our (J&K) state but will bring an end to the alleged dubious role played by the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Exam and will bring cheers to the hard working and deserving aspirants belonging to all the three regions of the state. The merit list will be based on the marks secured in NEET and as per the existing State Reservation Act. It is a win-win situation for all".
Brig Anil didn't issue the written statement as a spokesperson of the party. He didn't use the words spokesperson of J&K BJP even once in his statement. The statement unambiguously suggested that he issued the statement in his own name. It is the omission of the word spokesperson from the statement that created doubts in the minds of the small time BJP workers and that's the reason they asked questions to each other if Brig Anil Gupta had quit the party or had he been removed by the party leadership from the position of spokesperson.
Only Brig Anil Gupta or the party leadership can clear the confusion.
