Militants strike in Bijbehara: 3 BSF personnel martyred, 7 injured; CM calls it senseless | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, June 3: Three BSF Personnel were killed and seven others injured after militants attacked convoy in Bijbehara area of this southern district. Reports said that militants attacked the BSF convoy that was on to Srinagar near sub-district hospital Bijbehara. They said that forces fired in retaliation, however in the initial attack three BSF Personnel identified as Mahadev Ram, Head Constable Ganesh Kumar Shukla and Ganesh Geri son of Ram Iqbal Geri resident of Siliguri ( West Bangal ) died on the spot while seven Personnel sustained critical injuries. Injured were identified as Omair Singh Son of Bilair Singh resident of Rohtak, Haryana, Bishamber Singh Son of Jagat Singh R/O Gawaliar ( MP), Nitish Singh Son of Wasudev R/O Maharashtra, Manturi Singh Son of Sangroor Singh R.O UP, Santosh Kumar resident of Jahanabad, Bihar, Vinod Barogay S/O Sohan Raj R/O Punjab, Sikander Son of Mahinder Lal R/O Himachal Pradesh. Injured were given treatment at Sub-district Hospital Bijbehara and were later shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment. Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers, however no arrests were made. Meanwhile, Hizbul Majahdeen Militant outfit claimed the responsibility of the attack. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the militant attack in her home town. Immediately after the attack, she spoke to Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) K.K. Sharma and expressed anguish and sorrow over the death of three personnel in the attack. "Such senseless attack is a desperate attempt by the elements inimical to peace to derail the peace efforts of the government and subvert the rejuvenating economic activity in the state," Mehbooba Mufti said in a statement. Mufti said the elements inimical to interests of Jammu and Kashmir have always tried to derail the peace efforts and the latest militant strike was again aimed at subverting the peace and development initiatives launched by her government. She also said such dastardly attacks have only brought miseries to the people and tragedies for the victim families, both security forces personnel and the civilians. The chief minister while expressing solidarity with the bereaved families of the security forces personnel, said: "I would like to express my sincere condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in the attack." |
