NC for autonomy, Cong for Jammu's division | | | ET Report JAMMU, June 3: The main opposition NC and its former ally, the Congress, have, it seems, joined hands to deprive people of J&K even of their normal civil and political rights and divide Jammu province to establish Greater Muslim Kashmir. On the one hand, the out-of-power NC has submitted to the assembly secretariat resolution on greater autonomy and urged the state government to ask the Central Government to consider the 2000 NC autonomy committee report and, on the other, the Congress, which, like the NC, also suffered massive defeats in the 2014 elections, has submitted a private member resolution seeking division of Jammu province. The private members resolution on autonomy committee report wants the Union Government to accept the autonomy committee report which seeks withdrawal of all central laws and all central institutions from J&K introduced after the arrest of Sheikh Abdullah on August 9, 1953. In other words, it pitches for a regime that is almost independent of India - just a step short of independence. The resolution was moved by NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, who is also MLA. The Congress' private member resolution wants the state government to delink the erstwhile Doda district from Jammu region and seeks for the area a dispensation similar to that of Leh and Kargil. The resolution terms the area as "Chenab Valley". The resolutions which were accepted by the Speaker reads: "resolution on separate Chenab Valley Hill Development Council be established as per the analogy of Leh & Kargil Hill Development Council". There exists no such Valley as Chenab Valley in the Jammu province. The term has been coined by the votaries of Greater Kashmir in the Valley and their agents in Doda. Resolution on separate Chenab Valley Hill Development Council was submitted by Congress MLA from Inderwal, who reportedly said that he also batted for "separate special financial component for erstwhile Doda" district. Separate special financial component be provided to bring the erstwhile Doda district to bring it at par with other districts of the state, he was quoted as saying. Both the resolutions are dangerous, which need to be rejected for obvious reasons. But the question is: Who will oppose these nasty resolutions? The BJP could have opposed them, but it is now part of the government and an ally of a party that is for self-rule and that had in the past supported the demand raised by vested interests in the erstwhile Doda district seeking its segregation from Jammu province. In other words, there is only one MLA in the assembly who could oppose the resolutions and he is Pawan Gupta, independent MLA from Udhampur. Which means there will no opposition to these resolutions. The leadership in the Jammu province alone can ensure the collapse of these two resolutions provided it is willing to discharge its obligations towards the nation, the state and Jammu province. It's time for all in Jammu province to unite and fight out the divisive policies of the NC and the Congress and also to expose the BJP, which has become party to al the intrigues against the country and the people of Jammu province. |
