HC asks state to grant sanction for prosecution of MGNREGA scam accused | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 3 (JNF): In a PIL on issuance of MGNREGA job cards to government employees, minor students and dead persons fraudulently with alleged connivance of revenue officials, a high court division bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice B S Walia today directed state to expedite the grant of sanction for prosecution of the accused public servants so that the vigilance organisation (VO) was able to present final challan before the competent court. The bench also directed to initiate departmental proceedings against the delinquent officials while observing that respondents had already investigated the matter and taken it to final conclusion. In response to the allegations, RDD Commissioner admitted that irregularities had been committed by some officers while engaging persons under MGNREGA scheme and that he has also referred the matter to VO, Jammu, for probing into it. The bench observed that VO SP's status report also revealed that officials had engaged a number of persons, who were not eligible for MGNREGA benefits, and their job cards had been prepared to withdraw the amount. A loss of Rs 3.81 lakh was said to have been caused to the state exchequer on account of partially executed works in 10 out of 18 wards.(JNF) |
