Assembly most powerful legislature after Parliament: CM | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 6: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said the Assembly has the distinction of being the most powerful assembly in the country as it has powers to make legislation for the State. "After Parliament, only J&K Assembly has the powers to make legislation, which gives it the distinction of being a unique legislature in the country," the Chief Minister said, while addressing a function in the Legislature lawns, organised in connection with the conferring of best legislator awards for the years 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. Ms Mufti said it is equally true that due to the prevailing situation in Kashmir, most of the politicians have to even risk their lives to reach this House through a democratic process. "Some of the Legislators have even sacrificed their lives and I pay my heartfelt tributes to them on this occasion," she said. Ms Mufti hailed the Legislators for effectively highlighting the problems confronting the State and its people in the House. She felicitated the Legislators, who were conferred with the Best Legislator awards. She also thanked them for giving the award money of Rs one lakh each to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, in the honour of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. |
