JKLF chief slaps police officer, BJP silent | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 6: While the government takes no time to act against common masses for attacking the public servant, the authorities seem reluctant to take action against JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik for slapping a police officer. On Saturday, the JKLF slapped a police officer near Budshah Chowk when police stopped him to proceed along with party workers to Lal Chowk. In a video, the separatist can be seen slapping and attacking policemen, while his supporters continue to hurl abuses at them. The incident took place when Malik and his supporters were protesting against BJP-PDP's stand on Kashmiri Pandits and Sainik colonies. But government seems reluctant to act against him and the issue was raised by several legislators in the Legislative Assembly on Monday. Soon after beginning of the question hour, the ruling BJP legislators Ravinder Raina led by the fellow legislators stood up from their benches and created ruckus in the assembly. The BJP legislators demanded immediate response from the government. But everyone was surprised why the BJP legislators are demanding action against Malik when their party is part of the government. Raina told the speaker that the incident has raised questions over the 'dignity of police officials in the state'. "How can he slap a police official? I demand response from the government," he said. Congress Legislator G M Saroori took a jibe at Raina's demand by saying that the government has already intensified curbs on the separatists. "One has been arrested rest will be soon," he said. CPI (M) state secretary, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami told the Speaker that a political approach is needed in this regard. "It requires political approach not an administrative one. The situation will turn worse if the problem is addressed on administrative basis. I want to know doesn't the government has a political approach to deal with separatists?" he said. Following Tarigami, Congress legislator G M Saroori demanded government's response regarding the killing of forces in Anantnag. |
