Frequent visits of Politicians mere formality: Bhan | Ahead of Kheer-Bawani Mela Pandits seek fulfilment of Govt Promises | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, June 6: Days before Kheer-Bawani mela, Pandits in Kashmir crying for unfilled government promises and term frequent visits of politicians to temple mere show-off. Office bearers of Dharmath trust which looks after facilities to pilgrims at Kheer-Bawani Mela express distress to handle arround 50,000 expected Pilgrims amid problems of untreated sewage and lack of accommodation within temple Premises. General Manager of Dharmath trust,R.L Bhan told early times that sewage treatment plant (STP) which state government had proposed in 2010 to treat sewage coming out from around 100 toilets was left halfway by JKPCC for some unknown reasons after spending arround Rs 80 Lakh on the project. Bhan said that to cater sewage coming out from temporary and attached toilets they over the years would dig holes within Temple premises but now space is shrinking for the same within temple premises and they are clueless to treat sewage coming out from toilets in absence of a concrete sewage treatment plant. "Politicians frequently visit this place but I feel they do it for mere show-off as nobody among them so far dared to takes pains to solve issues bothering us here, we requested politician to solve our STP and accommodation problems time and again but nobody pays heed to our requests." Bhan said. Dharmath trust office bearers said that state government under Prime Minister's Rehabilitation package re-settled arround 40 families of Pandits in Temple rooms with an assurance that more rooms will be constructed within temple premises to cater accommodation need of pilgrims during Mela days. However, till date not a single hut was constructed by state government to compensate 40 out of total 50 rooms offered to migrant Pandits. "We have now decided to erect arround 50 tents to accommodate Pilgrims in opne during Mela days and we have also asked District Administration to provide some space for pilgrims for one day in nearby government schools which will remain closed due to Sunday Holiday that particular day."one Dharmath trust office bearer said The annual Kheer-Bawani Mela in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal District is scheduled on 12 june, 2016 in which Kashmiri Pandits looking after the facilities to pilgrims believe participation of around 50,000 people this year. Pandits said that they approached every concerned government department including JKPCC and Tourism departments to put an end to their problems but to their surprise none among politicians and officials of state administration ever responded to their calls. They said that politicians of almost all political parties of state every year visit this place but forget everything sfter thd mrla. Office Bearers of Dharmath trust said that District administration Ganderbal does what it could from its available resources. |
