JAMMU, June 6: Second group of Tawi Trekkers J&K comprising of 50 students, including 18 girls of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, here left today for Manali in Himachal Pradesh to participate in the Himalayan Trekking Programme being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K. The group, led by a senior member of the club Akshay Sadotra, also includes four representatives of Oriental Academy including its Vice Principal, Shruti Chauhan and four teachers, Arvinder Kour, Nishu Dubey, Jyoti and Rahul Kumar. Joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K, Sonam Sidharth, who is director of the programme, is already stationed at Manali. During the three-day sojourn at Manali, trekkers shall trek around Manali to the enchanting Jogni waterfall, the Manali View point besides a visit to the hot water sulphur springs at Vashisht, the famous Hadimba temple, Tibetan Refugee Camp, the Eco Park and Mountaineering and Allied Institute. The trekkers shall also visit Macleodganj, the seat of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, Bhagshunag, Waterfall, Tapovan, the picturesque Dharamshala stadium besides Nagini Devi enroute their return journey to Jammu. However, the major attraction of the venture shall be thrilling experience of rafting in the Beas river, crossing the ice cold waters and wonderful experience of staying in luxury tents with sleeping bags. Earlier the group was flagged off by Administrator of the school, Vivek Chauhan. Prominent among others present included secretary, Shawetica Khajuria and other office bearers of Tawi Trekkers. It may be mentioned here that Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, Jammu is one of the founder institutional members of Tawi Trekkers J&K and has been participating in trekking, rock climbing, sport climbing and all other activities conducted by the club for the last 32 years and has produced champion sport climbers. |
