Everest climber flays govt on sports policy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 6: Lt Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, the first officer from Jammu and Kashmir to scale the Mount Everest thrice, today flayed the state government for not having a full-fledged sports policy. "It was unfortunate that despite having no dearth in the field of sports in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government has not yet framed a sports policy for the budding players and this is the reason, players prefer to move out of the state and represent other states for acknowledgement," he said at a function here. He suggested that the Jammu and Kashmir government should have a full-fledged sports policy like Haryana so that "our sportsmen would also shine in their field like other states of the country". "If the youth in Kashmir takes active part in sports, it will yield positive results and the young minds, who are being exploited on the streets can be channelised in a better and positive way," he said. Giving the credit of his achievement to the Army, Jamwal said "Indian Army has made me. It hardly matters whether the state government is claiming on my achievements or not". Jamwal, who had joined the Army as a jawan in the Dogra Regiment, made it to the Army Cadet College (ACC) and then was commissioned in the Jat regiment as an officer. |
