Historic Baba Samtal Mela concludes with grand 'Dangal' | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, June 6: The traditional and historic 3-day long Baba Samtal Mela today concluded with a grand Dangal (Indian style wrestling) and colourful cultural activities including folk dances here today in Udhampur district. Pahalwan Liakat Ali of Panthal lifted the Baba Samtal Kesari title by defeating his rival Pahalwan Angrez Singh of Jungle Gali in the final bout while atleast 100 bouts were played at the grand dangal. Local reports said, the annual 3-day Baba Samtal Mela held at beautiful high altitude meadow of Rulani Patt Panchari Udhampur today came to end with much fanfare. Visitors from across Jammu division, viz Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda and Jammu thronged to the mela and participated in various activities held as part of mela and also sought blessings of the local deity for the welfare and prosperity of their families. Besides reverence to the local deity the scorching hot weather conditions could be the reason why the mela witnessed overwhelming response fro0m the local masses. Pertinent to mention the place finds the prominent place in the folk lore and local legends connecting the place with the Pandavas who according to local legends during exile had visited this place. Besides chief guest Ex -KAS Officer Saraf Singh Nag other prominent who were present on concluding occasion included Dr Mulkh Raj Budhotia, Sarpanch Tej Singh Bhamagh, Sarpanch Surjit Singh, Sarpanch Jai paul Sharma, Naib Sarpanch Makhan Singh ,Master Bishan Dass, Master Gopal Krishna and President organizing committee Krishan Lal. |
