'Politics of walkout won't help BJP recover lost space' | Jammu needs action on ground | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 10: Strange things are happening in the ongoing budget session of J&K legislature. The BJP, which is part of the PDP-led coalition government and which was given massive mandate by the people of Jammu region hoping it would protect and promote their genuine cause without harming even slightly the genuine interests of Kashmir, has been creating scene after scene in the assembly by staging walkout - sometimes against the whole government and sometimes against their own party to register their protest against the BJP ministers. What a number of BJP MLAs did in the assembly on Thursday to register their protest against the government and their own party ministers was something unique in the history of the state legislature. They not only lambasted the state government but also their own party ministers, saying they were anti-Jammu and that they had failed the people of Jammu province. The issues were many and it also included the issue of discrimination as far as sanctioning of stadiums in the state was concerned. It was Kashmir, which is two time less that of Jammu in terms of area and which houses population equal to Kashmir, if not more, got the lion's share. Kashmir got 7, Jammu 3 and Ladakh 2. However, what caused embarrassment to the government all the more was the manner in which the opposition NC, the Congress and the independent MLA from Udhampur, Pawan Gupta, entered the well and shouted slogans against the government to express solidarity with the revolting BJP MLAs. The opposition parties only got additional ammunition to attack the government. Paradoxically, the critics of the BJP have termed what some of the BJP MLAs did in the assembly after May 25 as no more than a drama enacted to mislead and hoodwink the people of Jammu province. "We are not impressed by what some BJP MLAs have been doing in the assembly. They are simply working as per the strategy evolved by the BJP leadership so that the BJP could tell its constituency in Jammu that the BJP is not committed to the cause of Jammu. Its just politics of deceit the BJP has been indulging in in its desperate bid to deflect the Jammu's attention from the real issue. We want concrete action on the ground. We want our share at all levels and in all spheres. It is a matter of regret that the BJP has betrayed Jammu and its cause in a most shameful manner. Jammu will not forgive it. Why don't they resign to demonstrate their pro-Jammu, pro-India and pro-Hindu credentials?," the critics of the BJP have been saying clearly and unequivocally. The critics do make a point. The BJP must take cognizance of what its critics have been saying about. The sooner it does so, the better. |
