SRINAGAR, June 10: The coalition partners, PDP and BJP seem to be divided over the controversial decisions that may hit the alliance government in the state.
The difference of opinions and perceptions can be viewed after government spokesperson and Education Minister Naeem Akhtar said that the government would not allow any yatra proposed by a New Delhi based organization-Acharaya Abhinav Gupt Sheshadri Samroh Samiti - to a cave in Beerwah area of central Kashmir's Budgam district. However the BJP legislators snubbed him for making such statement.
"No such yatra will be allowed. This has been made clear already by Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minster," Akhtar said on Thursday.
The BJP legislators protested against the statement made by senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar.
Soon after the beginning of the question hour, the BJP legislators in the Upper House stood up from their seats and raised voice against the government's decision. A few of the legislators were seen waving newspapers who shouted that ban is direct inference with the religious matter of Hindus.
"Banning Abhinav Gupt yatra is like banning Baba Nund Reshi," BJP legislator Ramesh Arora said.
The other BJP MLCs supported Arora who accused the government of succumbing under separatist pressure. "In a secular state you cannot ban religious activities. Government should immediately revoke the ban and allow the yatra," BJP legislator Ashok Khajurie demanded.
Another BJP legislator, Vibod Gupta, said that Abhinav Gupt cave is a sacred place for Hindu's. "The government cannot ban the devotees from visiting it. History is the witness and this cave is mentioned in the religious scriptures and has a long history," he said.
The BJP legislators created uproar for some time, however later the Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh who was present in the House directed them to sit on their seats.
Following the senior BJP minister intervention, the legislators sat down and allowed the House to proceed.
Last week Anjuman Mazharul Haq, a religious organization from central Kashmir's Budgam district said that it will oppose the proposed yatra to Abhinav Gupta cave as it is violation of court order and cautioned the Pandits against holding the Yatra saying it can harm the communal harmony since the cave was allegedly used by a Muslim saint Mian Shah Sahab for prayers.
Earlier the coalition partners were also divided over establishing of Sainik colonies and separate townships for the migrant Pandits. The PDP has ruled out of establishing Sainik colonies in the Valley. PDP ministers said that there is no land in Kashmir for making Sainik colonies. "We have taken a consistent stand and even our two CMs didn't attend any meeting about it," they said.
However, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh last month said the BJP supports the establishing of Sainik colonies as it was a genuine demand from the army men.
"The establishing of Sainik colonies in Kashmir is a genuine demand and right for the army men. Around 50 percent in Jammu Kashmir Light Infantry (JKLI) are Kashmiri Muslims and majority are state subjects there. These people fought against the Kabalis and there is nothing wrong if they are demanding establishing of Sainik colonies in the Valley," Nirmal Singh said.
