JAMMU, June 10: The incharge of a police post (PP) in Jammu South, who has given a free hand to gamblers and, in turn, gets a huge share of the proceeds, has proved to be far more powerful than his 'boss'.
After his posting as the PP head, he first started harassing a notorious gambler of the area. However, on the intervention of a local, he allegedly allowed the gambler to carry on his unlawful activities under his jurisdiction in lieu of a huge share of the proceeds, police sources said.
When some people complained to him against the gambler, he started harassing them for one reason or other but did not take any legal action against him, sources said.
The people then complained to a 'senior' police officer against the PP head. Though the officer ordered his transfer as IO to the police station under which his PP fell, he got the order modified and continued to head the PP, the sources added.
By doing so, he proved to be far more powerful than his senior officer. Sources said another senior officer, who modified his transfer order, was alleged to be part of the gambling racket |
