MS Nazki Early Times Report Poonch, June 12: People of Harni, Mendhar, continued to stage protests against PHE department for its failure to provide them adequate supply of drinking water. They blocked the Mendhar-Surankote road for hours together. They alleged that the pumping stations were defunct for the past some months and the leakage in supply pipes had also gone unnoticed. PHE's Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub-Division, Mendhar, Israr Ahmed Khan, when contacted, said maintenance was the job of mechanical division. AE (Mech) Dilpazeer Ahmed admitted that 18 pumping stations were defunct and had not been maintained for months together, according to sources. Though lakhs of rupees were being spent on the maintenance of pipes and other machinery, the department had failed to provide drinking water to the people of Harni and Balakote areas, the protesters alleged. Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mendhar, Thakur Sher Singh along with PHE officers and field staff today spoke to the protesters and assured them that measures would be taken to restore water supply to the affected areas. |
