‘Time for BJP to call it quits’

Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 12: The PDP-BJP government on Sunday allowed   Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to share a common stage to oppose the proposed separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits and Sainik colony, while on other hand the same government barred the pilgrims from entering Beerwah who wanted to visit “Abhinav Gupt” cave in the area.
Sources told Early Times the restrictions imposed on the movement of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were lifted this morning and they were allowed to address the anti-India seminar in uptown.
Insiders revealed that government ignored the opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and  retracted from its decision to put separatists leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent them from attending a seminar against the proposal to set up a Sainik Colony and a separate  for migrant Kashmiri Pandits.
The Government, sources said, has decided to go soft on the separatist leaders.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Jammu and Kashmir is a strange state. Here people who preach secessionism, sedition and spit venom against the country are given a free hand, while as the pilgrims are treated as criminals.”
Officials said scores of pilgrims appeared near Beerwah town in central Kashmir on Sunday and tried to march towards Abhinav Gupt cave but they were intercepted by Police and were asked to return.
An observer said, “The state government is leaving no stone unturned to appease the separatists. It succumbed under pressure and did not allow the Abhinav Gupt Yatra to take place. The decision to call off the Yatra was taken after the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani warned off a stir and asked government to stop this yatra from taking place.”
He said, “People like Geelani and Mirwaiz are openly challenging JK’s merger with Indian union and are trying their best to  foment trouble in Kashmir as their bosses sitting across the border have directed them to do so.”
An analyst while castigating the BJP said, “It’s high time for BJP to snap its ties with the PDP. BJP’ s credibility is at its lowest ebb. It has bartered the party ideology for the sake of power. PDP by ignoring the genuine concerns of BJP has proved that for them their coalition partner hardly matters. People of Jammu had voted for BJP in droves with a hope that party would become the voice of Jammu. Unfortunately BJP leaders have been reaping benefits of and seen least bothered about the aspirations of the Jammu people and others.”
